SEVEN MAGIC MOUNTAINS- LAS VEGAS

SevenMagicMountains

This place is a great place to come and take some memorable pictures with such amazing public art.  It is a large scale of desert artwork made for the public.  This exhibition opened in May of 2016.  This piece of art is nothing like what we usual see in Las Vegas.

Ugo Rondinone is the artist who created this and is produced by Art Production Fund, New York, and Nevada Museum of Art, Reno.  His art ranges from two-dimensional paintings to wax sculptures, and installations on the scale of landscape. He is well know for his work in 2013 which is the installation of anthropomorphic stone sculptures in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza.  “Seven Magic Mountains elicits continuities and solidarity between human nature, artificial and natural, then and now,” states Rondinone.

Five years ago, Ugo Rondinon was invited by the Nevada Art Museum to develop new art in the desert.  His work is based on duality. It consist of seven towers of colorful, stacked boulders that stands more than thirty feet high.  His art was directed to the Hoodoo’s.  Hoodoo Mountains are stone formations that are found all over the world. In the United States, you will find them in Utah and he wanted to bring them to Nevada as well.  Rondinone painted the stones in day glow colors which comes from the seven colors of the rainbow and he added black, white, and silver.  He says that Seven Magic Mountains is surrounded with dark contrasts because of the desert, so when you put something in contrast, it elevates the other parts of the surroundings allowing it to stand out more.  He hopes that we all can appreciate the landscape of Las Vegas with this beautiful piece of art.  The benefit of public art, on public ground, allows anyone to be able to come and experience it.  His main motivation is for the public to be able to enjoy it and share it with others.  Color is something he says that everyone can relate to.  From babies to adults, we all can relate to it and enjoy it.  Land art in his words, is an extension of meditating nature.

From glitz to glam, to the city lights, this by far is different and unique, and you can find it right off of the I-15 South and Sloan.

When I used to live in Las Vegas,  they didn’t have this, so I was happy I was able to check it out while I was visiting my family.  My husband and I had a great time taking pictures at this location.  Las Vegas is not only a great place to gamble,  drink, and go clubbing, it has places that you are able to enjoy with your family.  You just have to look off the strip and find the local spots.  When you are visiting my city, Google or Yelp places to go and do (OFF THE STRIP) because Vegas has other great festivities and spots to enjoy!

Make a stop here for some great photos.
